Description
Since the opening 8 years ago the creative hub Platform4 in Aalborg has been a unique and unconventional frame for art and technology in the shape of workshops, entrepreneurship, electronics-hacking, robot building, concerts, festivals and many other kinds of events. The essense of the special spirit is now captured for the first time in a book, which describes the idiosyncratic environment, the community and the energy that since 2008 has put both Platform4 and Aalborg on the international creative map.
The book, which features a foreword by culture- and communication expert Christian Have, consists of articles, which are written by both local powerhouses and some of the art and technology superstars that were invited to Aalborg to play along and who became quite mesmerized with the creative Platform4 community. The list of contributors include Amsterdam’s internationally recognized entrepreneur and grassroots city developer Eva de Klerk, as well as Christian Liljedahl from Copenhagens famous art group and technology hacker squad Illutron and Mexican-Swedish artist, Internet-activist and hacker Geraldine Juarez, known among other for her involved in the Berlin-based FAT Labs collective.
The articles in the book stretch from essays that go behind some of the biggest and most interesting projects in the history of Platform4 as well as essays that zoom out and takes a look on the foundational principles and values, which have helped shape Platform4, set its direction and, most importantly, create the large community of creators, artists, entrepreneurs and students from far and hear. The whole shebang is peppered with hundreds of beautiful photos that visually document the exciting stories and shows how it all went down.
‘Open Source City: Art & Technology Experiments in Platform4’ is funded by The Danish Art Council and via a successful Kickstarter-campaign.
