‘Open Source City’ is published today

It is with great joy that we can present ‘Open Source City: Art & Technology Experiments in Platform4’ to the world. The book comes out today!

Since its opening 8 years ago, creative hub Platform4 in Aalborg, Denmark, has been a unique and unconventional setting for art and technology in the shape of workshops, entrepreneurship, electronics hacking, concerts, festivals and a plethora of other events. The spirit of the place is now captured for the first time in book form, which describes the special environment, community and energy which since 2008 has put both Platform4 and Aalborg on the international map of creativity.

The book has a preface by culture and communications expert Christian Have and contains essays written by both local initiative-takers and some of the art and technology-superstars that were invited to Aalborg to play along – and who really fell for its creative community.

The list of authors include Amsterdam’s internationally famed entrepreneur and city developer Eva de Klerk, Copenhagen-based technology-group Illutron’s Christian Liljedahl and the Mexican-Swedish artist, Internet-activist and hacker Geraldine Juarez, known among other things from her work with FAT Labs.

The book contains essays which go behind the scenes of some of the biggest projects in the history of Platform4 as well as essays that zoom out and look at some of the foundational principles and value sets that helped shape the place, set its direction and, most importantly, create the big Platform4-community of creative practitioners, artists, entrepreneurs and students from near and far. The whole shebang is furthermore soaked in hundreds of beautiful images that visually documents the exciting stories and shows how it all went down.
